Uganda: private water operators form association

Eight private water operators responsible for water supply in 25 urban centres in Uganda have formed the Association of Private Water Operators in Uganda (APWO-Uganda). These urban centres are small towns with populations between 5,000 and 15,000. The formation of the Association will enhance the continuity and success of private sector participation in urban water supply. The new chairman of the Association, Eng. Harrison Mutikanga says the formation of APWO is important because it brings all private water supply operators under one umbrella for ease of operations, sharing of experiences and having a common voice. APWO-Uganda has several goals geared towards uniting its members in delivery of high quality, reliable, environmentally sustainable, economically efficient and satisfactory water and sanitation services to the communities they serve. The formation of APWO-Uganda was supported by the German government through the Deutsche Gesellschaft fÃ¼r Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ).

Congratulations to those operators, for you have taken a big state in that you realize their is a need and you have filled it. This one action will allow you to network the exchange of information on common problems, and solution to those problems.
