The National Planning Committee of this year's World Water Day celebration in Ghana on the theme Clean Water for a Healthy World is organizing various programmes and activities as part of the celebration.

For school students there was a junior High Schools Essay competition in Tarkwa on Friday, 12th March, 2010; a senior High Schools quiz competition in Tarkwa to be covered live by a local radio station on Friday, 19th March, 2010; and a procession by students holding placards with water and sanitation messages to the durbar grounds on Monday, 22nd March 2010.

Furthermore a health walk in Accra fused with Health Screening after the walk and the formation of the Longest Toilet Queue at the Holy Gardens Park, Kwame Nkrumah Circle on 20/03/10. There will be a flag hoisting durbar to climax the celebrations in Tarkwa on Monday, 22nd March, 2010. Specific broadcasting will be done through radio, TV and newspapers.

Also, Green Cross International (GCI), together with Pureology Serious Colour Care, has launched the Smart Water for Green Schools project to encourage exchanges between schools in the same river basins. This includes the building of reliable and long-lasting rainwater harvesting systems and ecological latrines in schools which are a cost effective and efficient means to secure water supplies and improve water sanitation for an entire school community.
