'Pani Ba' (the water man) Balaram Karki, Nepal
Updated - Tuesday 02 June 2009
“I feel donating drinking water is better than blood donation and eye donation. Therefore, I started to distribute water free of cost", Balaram Karki of Koteshwor, Nepal, known locally as 'Pani Ba' – the water man. A former 'Bhattasahu’ or brick-kiln owner, the elderly Balaram and his wife Mithu Karki have been distributing drinking water to their neighbours free of cost from their private dug-well. Over 100 families from Tridevinagar, Suryakot, Narephant and Jadibuti get water free-of-charge from their dug-well.
