Latin America: IDB signs MOU with SNV and WBCSD to push for market-based public services
Updated - Friday 05 October 2007
The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the SNV Netherlands Development Corporation and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), promoting commercial participation in public service provision, according to an IDB statement.
Through this alliance the bank aims to promote market-based solutions for the provision of water, housing, electricity and other basic services, IDB president Luis Alberto Moreno says in the statement. By this MOU, SNV and WBCSD are building on the success of their Alliance for Inclusive Business in the Central American and the Andean Regions. "This IDB partnership with SNV-WBCSD Alliance is a bold attempt to catalyze sustainable and scaleable solutions through business that will be a real boon for development in the region," says SNV regional director W. Robert de Jongh.
