Bhutan: OPEC grant funding for school water and sanitation

The OPEC Fund for International Development approved a grant of US$ 300,000 to help finance an initiative of the United Nation’s Children’s Fund (UNICEF), which aims to provide safe drinking water and sanitation systems in Bhutanese schools.
Sudan: clean drinking water for 2.5 million people in Khartoum

Dutch and Sudanese offcials and a British consultancy group signed an agreement on 21 December 2005 for a new water treatment plant in Khartoum costing US$ 108 million, which by 2008 is scheduled to provide clean drinking water for 2.5 million people.
Burundi: Rural Water Infrastructure Rehabilitation and Extension Project

The African Development Fund (ADF) on 14 December 2005 approved a grant of 12 million Units of Account (US$ 17 million) to finance a Rural Water Infrastructure Rehabilitation and Extension Project in Burundi.
Uzbekistan: ADB loan for rural water improvement in two provinces

Around 250,000 rural residents in Uzbekistan will have access to safe drinking water and sanitation through a project to rehabilitate decaying infrastructure in two provinces, backed by a US$ 25 million ADB loan.
Pakistan: UNICEF launches water and sanitation project in Kashmir quake zone

UNICEF and the government of Pakistani-administered Kashmir have jointly launched a new US$ 8.2 million project to rehabilitate rural water supply systems and improve sanitation in the two worst quake-affected districts of Muzaffarabd and Bagh over the next six months.
Tanzania: World Bank proposes new US$ 300 million loan for water sector support

The World Bank is proposing a US$ 300 million loan for the Water Sector Support Program Tanzania. The programme is designed to support the government’s sector wide approach programme (SWAp) and is aimed at meeting a resource shortfall in the Water Sector Development Program budget.
Nicaragua: IDB approves US$ 45 million for investment in basic social services

The Inter-American Development Bank announced the approval of a US$ 45 million (EUR 38.2 million) concessional loan to Nicaragua to support a decentralised and participatory system of public social investment in municipalities that will increase access by the poor to basic services.
Mozambique: Government finalising contracts for small dams

The Mozambican Public Works Ministry is finalising negotiations with contractors to work out projects to build 20 small dams in Gaza, Inhambane, Sofala, Manica and Tete provinces, all to try and minimise the shortage of water in areas prone to drought.
Nigeria: rural water supply and sanitation programme in six states

A EUR 120 million grant agreement for rural water supply and sanitation programme to cover six states of the country has been signed by Nigeria, the European Union and UNICEF. The programme will benefit over 1,400 rural communities and 60 small towns.
Cambodia: Tonle Sap Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Sector Project

The Asian Development Bank will help provide safe drinking water to more than 1 million people and sanitation to 720,000 people living around the Tonle Sap river basin in Cambodia, through a US$ 18 million grant.
