The International Institute for Water and Environmental Engineering (2iE) at UNICEF’s request conducted a study in Burkina Faso on analysing microbiology and physic-chemical quality of the water along its supply chain (welling, transport, storage).This was coupled with a study on behavioural practices of hygiene linked to supply of water.

Ghana: quotes highlighting the links in the chain for sustainable services

Ghanaian planning processes do not systematically address the full range of post-construction costs to ensure indefinite provision of WASH services, according to Dr. Kwabena Nyarko, of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He is the director of the WASHCost project in Ghana which has found inadequate co-ordination between planning, budgeting and finance.

Ensuring rural water services that last: Lessons from a 13-country study

While the problem of poor sustainability - and the threat it poses to achieving the MDGs - may be well recognised, concrete steps for addressing it are considerably less clear. Triple-S, an IRC initiative funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation recently completed a 13-country study to identify factors that contribute to, or constrain, the delivery of sustainable rural water services at scale.

IRC to launch TWO new interactive websites in 2011- Give us YOUR input!

In early 2011, IRC will be launching two new web sites that will provide more sophisticated and interactive formats of the existing Source News webpage and the IRC library database. The new versions of E-Source and the IRC WASH Library will also allow for everyone to contribute and share their own ideas, articles, etc. through functions called My Source and My Library. We look forward to incorporating your suggestions into the functionality and improvements to our final design!
