Updated - Tuesday 06 March 2007
The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group approved on 21 February 2007 in Tunis, a grant of 14 million Units of Account, equivalent to US$ 20.86 million (EUR 15.88 million), to finance a Rural Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation Project in Niger. The project will improve drinking water distribution as well as family and public sanitation in 280 rural communities in the regions of Maradi, Tahoua and Tillabéri. It will also help in building management capacity of women involved in the rural water supply and sanitation sector. Executing agency is the Ministry of Water Resources, the Environment and Desertification Control. In this way, the project will contribute to the attainment of the MDGs that relate to drinking water supply in rural areas by 2% and by 0.4% for sanitation.
