Middle East: Arab League calls for pressure on Israel for strategic water plan

Updated - Friday 28 April 2006

The Arab League called for a strategic Arab water plan that guarantees full Arab rights to water and pressures Israel into complying to water-related international resolutions. A report presented by the Director of the Arab Water Studies and Water Security Centre, Mrs. Shihra Qusaiaa, said, the water situation is critical and requires complete cooperation to create a clear strategic plan supported internationally preventing Israel from unrightfully taking water from neighbouring Arab countries or the occupied territories. Israel is in total control of Palestinian water sources. Palestinians currently buy 60 percent of their water from overpricing Israeli companies. The report was presented at a seminar organised by the Arab Water Studies and Water Security Centre in Damascus.
