Palestine: PM says Israel prevents Palestinians from water supplies
Updated - Thursday 16 March 2006
“There will be no peace in this region if we are prevented from our water supplies including our rights in the Jordan Valley”, Palestine’s Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei said in a speech before the Conference of Palestinian National Water Supplies Council held in Ramallah. Qurei pointed out that the Israeli government prevented Palestinians from digging new wells in the northern and western basin of West Bank that caused a serious deterioration and increased the suffering of Palestinian people. He said that the Israelis did not respect their obligations signed in Oslo 1995 regarding Palestinian right of water supplies, adding that Israelis practiced the policy of procrastination and delay during the past ten years.
