Tanzania: Revised National Water Policy Approved
Updated - Monday 30 September 2002
The Cabinet finally approved the revised National Water Policy (NAWAPO) on 22 Jul 2002. The revision of the policy, which started about three years ago, has been done through a multi-stakeholder consultation following national and international socio-economic policy reforms in the 1990s. The four key issues in the revised policy are: demand responsive approach (DRA) principle leading to community ownership and management (COM) of water/sanitation facilities; private sector participation (PSP); integration of water supply and sanitation and; decentralization of service delivery from central government to district councils.
