Arsenic Remediation: MIT Researchers Evaluate Alternative Technologies
Updated - Monday 01 July 2002
Researchers* at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA, have evaluated four new and alternative technologies for arsenic remediation: iron filings, iron oxide coated sand, and two different systems using modified activated alumina metal oxides. These systems were field tested in the USA and in Nepal with source water total arsenic concentrations ranging from 100 Â 1,000 ug/l. The iron filings media and the iron oxide coated sand gave treated water total arsenic concentrations respectively of < 5 ug/l Â11 ug/l and <10 Â 100 ug/l respectively. The two modified activated alumina metal oxide systems produced treatment water consistently < 5 ug/l or < 10 ug/l. Several additional new technologies were also reviewed: granular ferric hydroxide, a ligand-based ceramic technology, biological filtration, new resin developments and nanofiltration.

Dear Sir or Madam: I work with Omnipure Filter Company, a leading component supplier, and we are interested in your research into arsenic medias. We have two technologies that can might be complimentary to your research. Please call me at your convenience at 203.230.2873 so we can talk and find out if there are any synergies between our two organizations. Bob Lisenko Omnipure Filter Company
