Latin America: Water Education and Training Network Initiated
Updated - Tuesday 13 August 2002
The idea to form the Latin American Water Education and Training Network (LA-WETnet) was triggered via a series of informal consultations during and after the 3rd WET Symposium in Delft, The Netherlands (November 2001). LA-WETnet is proposed as a regional network, linking up partners actively involved in water education and training (supply side) with sector institutions and professional associations (demand side). The objective of the network is to generate a 'critical mass' for high quality education and training at all levels and for effective development and implementation of information, research and development activities and services. The official launching of LA-WETnet is proposed to take place during the upcoming biannual Congress of AIDIS in Cancun, Mexico. In line with the WET initiative, LA-WETnet's establishment recognises the fact that the human resource component forms a key critical factor in the development of sustainable water management schemes in almost a! ll countries in Latin America.
