Updated - Monday 15 July 2002
The Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) in partnership with Akash Ganga Trust ( http://akash-ganga-rwh.com/), is unveiling its first Rain Centre in Chennai (Madras), India in Jul 2002. The centre will house a permanent exhibition on traditional and modern rainwater harvesting systems in India. Visitors can watch electronic simulations and "water scenarios," outlining the availability, rainfall, distribution and water usage in the western coastal plains. Water testing kits and information on testing water quality are also available. Other resources include a CD-ROM presentation of CSE's rainwater harvesting campaign, and databases on urban and rural technologies, case studies and practitioners in India. The Rain Centre will also organize eco tours for school students. The Rain Centre is open to the public, free of charge. CSE plans to open similar centres in Delhi, Udaipur and Bangalore before the end of 2002.
